Swiss performance label ON continues its reign of technical lifestyle products with the Swiss Legacy Jacket, a limited edition hiking poncho of a kind that can relate its entire journey — from concept to locally produced fabrics and techniques — to the Zurich HQ brand.
Built to celebrate all things Alpine, the jacket combines minimalist silhouette with element security and supreme functionality. ON Product Design Leader Thilo Alex Brunner explained the importance of these values earlier this year. “Switzerland has a very functional history when it comes to product design. We’re known to be a bit over-rational sometimes. In Swiss design tradition, it’s not a sequential process where design or engineering comes first. We’ve always worked very closely together.”
He also added, “We all know that in fashion something can have a moment but that moment can go away again. That’s why I think it’s really important to be functional. If you can make sure functionality is the foundation of a product, then I believe it will have a very long lifespan and won’t just be a trend.”
The Swiss Legacy Jacket is the newest concrete example of its foundation. The piece is constructed from densely woven organic cotton — EtaProof, a highly advanced weave that seals itself when exposed to moisture, rendering the piece exceptionally weatherproof, breathable and sturdy. It’s still super lightweight due to the sleeves made of four-way stretch fabric due to Schoeller ‘s active-wear textile kings.
Just 500 Swiss Legacy Jackets are available worldwide. Every one is numbered, costs £710.00 (approximately $917).
