Interview: Charleston Based Photographer Takes Over Fashion Photography World!

Taylor Jarvis, better known as Pale Girl, stems from a small town in Georgia. From there, her and her family moved to South Carolina in 2005, where she now resides and builds her business from. Taylor has been capturing things with her camera ever since high-school when her parents surprised her with her first camera over ten years ago. Pale Girl’s love for her work reflects in her images.

We caught up with her during FOM‘s latest takeover in Charleston, South Carolina.
After our past journalist’s work in New Orleans, we missed the one of a kind flare the South has to offer.

Q: What is your background and how did you become involved with photography?
A: I’ve always been the creative type. I first became interested in Photography in high school when my parents surprised me with my first Nikon.
Q: Judging by your photos, you seems to work mostly with natural light, has this been a conscious decision for your personal style?
A: I love natural light. I do have some studio lights at home, but I love the challenge of just using my camera.
Q: Which artists or photographers have most influenced your work?
A: I absolutely love Jimmy Marble, Alessandro Michele, and many Fashion designers.
Q: What are some things you do to push your creativity?
A: I try to think outside the box. I try not to get inspiration from other Photographers so I get my ideas from art, music, experiences, other people’s experiences, and even dreams.
Q: What is the story behind your awesome photography name!
A: Well, I was sitting down, trying to think of something clever…because it’s just not my personality to use my name like other Photographers do (nothing against it, I just wanted to be different!). I was thinking about myself, and that’s when it came to me…Pale Girl. My Mom’s a ginger and I have fair skin as all get out…so that was it!

Q:Tell us about your most bizarre occurrence on set!?
A:Hm…we’ve encountered snakes, crazy weather, and the funny stories could go on.
Q:What are your aspirations for the next few years?
A:I want to be a part of an Agency, shoot for Gucci one day, and be on the cover of Vogue. Clearly, those might take more than a few years…but I’m going to work hard to get to where I want to be.
