#BlackLivesMatter is so much more than a hashtag–it’s a movement. One of the best ways to support Black people and assist in progressing the culture, is to invest in or support Black owned businesses. So often, society tries to integrate Black models into mainstream campaigns, and although representation is important, paying your hard-earned money to a racist brand doesn’t help Black people in the long run. Here are a few brands, which are relatively new, that have you covered from skincare to swimwear.

FrndsxFoes Worldwide

IG @FrndsxFoesWorldwide is a newly-launched athleisure brand based out of NYC. Designed by Brooklynite Kenesha Nelson, the line has offerings for both men and women. Nelson’s newest brainchild is Swarovski logo tube-tops, coming soon. Perfect to beat the heat on the trendiest of occasions and to take you from day to night. Pair it with the unisex Swarovski-blinged logo hoodie or a FrndsxFoes trucker hat (a personal fave).

Nude Studios

IG @ShopNudeStudios, designed by Maryland native and NYC transplant Whitney Quartey, is a sexy, eye-grabbing collection of leather and sheer fabrics, which Quartey began designing while a fashion design major at The Art Institute of New York City. Already known for her leather bras, spotted on rapper Asian Doll, tap into for updates regarding the newest collection. Nude Studios is Perfect for the vixen and bold and daring, the collection does not disappoint.

The website consistently updates with T-Shirts, athletic gear, and a notable collection of trendy accessories spotted all over Instagram. The newest offerings from the brand is a range of half-tint sunglasses in assorted colors, called the Sunkissed Collection.

Ouii Skin

IG @OuiiSkinCo, pronounced “Yess Skin,” is a cruelty-free skincare line. Black-owned skincare lines are extremely essential. In the past, it has been difficult for many Black people to find diverse products from brands knowledgeable about Black skin’s luster and hydration. Ouii Skin says the line was “established on the foundations of natural beauty and quality.” The newest product, the Miss Pearl Illuminating Body Butter, is just $20.99.  The full range of products includes the Skin Tight Lipgloss, body oils, hydrating face moisturizers, handmade soaps, and more. The products can be found at Sign up and receive 25% off your first purchase.

One of the best things in fashion is sustainability. IG @ArkiveLives (, is the creative brainchild of IG @ValeLives (  Arkive Lives offers timeless archival pieces and upcycled fashions that merge the old with the new. The Vale Lives brand first caught my eye over a year ago for its popular stacked-denim trend, which had gone viral on Instagram, spotted on rapper Gunna and model and influencer IG @AlealiMay. The quilted cardigans depicting action heroes and religious characters is also a must-see.
